In this 1914 craftsman style bungalow in the esteemed Lynnhurst neighborhood, we were charged with designing the layout and all the materials of the primary suite bathroom to accommodate a free-standing tub, separate shower, double sink vanity and private water closet, and ample storage.
Reimagining the space that the previous owner gutted, the puzzle pieces came together in what feels like a larger space than actuality. We achieved this by keeping all the tones neutral, floating the vanity to create a visual trick of expansion, climbing the floor tile up the back wall and built-in the custom walnut linen cabinet flush with the walls and foregoing hardware for a touch-latch opening system.
The lighting plan is layered including an under vanity motion light for middle of the night visits, a large touch LED mirror for close-up tasks that also expanded the space and pendants hung offset of the vanity for ambience.
Peeking through behind the vanity is the home’s existing brick exterior that inspired the use of varying textures. We used the same porcelain tile inspired by the rich texture of bamboo throughout in various sizes that brings a warmth to the neutral palette. Selecting a deep toned walnut that is book-matched creates a soft movement of pattern. Finished off with a simple quartz countertop that mimics concrete, the space feels like a luxurious cashmere blanket wrapped around you.
